1. Vietnamese Dong was introduced on 3rd May 1978 as the official currency of Vietnam.
2. It is represented by the symbol ₫/đ.
3. Hao and xu are its two subunits. However, the people of Vietnam have long stopped using them.
4. As of mid-2021, Vietnamese Dong is one of the weakest circulating currencies globally.
5. The word "dong" is not exclusive to the Vietnamese currency. Any money or currency is described as Dong in the Vietnamese language. Hence, when talking about its national currency, one always has to specify Vietnamese Dong.
6. Its official international code is VND.
7. It is considered an exotic currency as there is a lack of interest in the forex market for it.
8. While differing in colour, every Vietnamese Dong banknotes feature Ho Chi Minh on their observed side.
